Follow the Instructions of your Supervisor

When an employee comes in complaining that they are being asked to perform duties outside of what is listed in their position description (Title 5) or functional statement (Title 38 & Hybrids), here are a few things to keep in mind:

1. Always advise the employee to “comply now, grieve later” – meaning do what they are instructed to do by their supervisor when they are instructed to do it.
2. He/she needs to bring us a copy of his/her position description/functional statement.  Review to confirm the duty is actually outside of what is listed on PD or functional statement.
3. If you decide to grieve it consider these:
   1. Article 27, Section 4 B
   2. Article 9, Section 1 C
