Every day that the government remains closed, more than 800,000 federal employees in all 50 states—from federal air marshals to Smithsonian cafeteria workers—go without pay.
The House of Representatives passed bipartisan legislation last week to reopen and fund the government. It’s now up to the Senate to act, but Senate Majority Leader Mitch McConnell refuses to bring it up for a vote.
